I am a goody goody through and through. Never drank anything in high school. (OK one time my two best friends and I tried to be badasses and drink some of one of their parents' alcohol during Christmas break. We had no idea what we were doing and wanted to mix whatever we drank with egg nog. It was vodka. And it was so gross, we stopped after a few sips each. Turns out it was the one bottle her parents were saving for something special at Christmas dinner, so we all got caught anyway.)
So when I went to college, I wanted to drink but was still in the dark. The older kids started me on mixed drinks (I don't know why) so then a few weeks in I still had never tried beer. I finally did, and it tasted awful. I had three sips total and stopped. Never finished it. That's why I claim "I've never had a beer."
Throughout the rest of college, I went to frat parties at least twice a week and drank almost every time. A vast majority of the time, they only offered beer. Often I could convince someone to give me something else, and when I couldn't, I used my go-to, "OK, thanks anyway. I'm allergic to beer." BAM! Alcohol in my hand. A frat boy cannot let a girl go sober.
Several years later, I still have never had a beer. I strictly drink red wine now. Every once in a while I'd still have a mixed drink at a bar before I got pregnant with Gracie, but I haven't ever since (I've been pregnant or nursing the entire time without any breaks).
That's not to say I'm a teetotaler or anything. I have a glass of wine every single night (usually two) after the girls go down. Sometimes when it's been one of those days, I have a glass with dinner while they're still up. I don't do it this way to keep them from seeing me drink, it's just that I see it as more of a reward if I wait. (Isn't that like the first sign of an alcoholic or something? Seeing drinking as a reward? Oh well.) I also have wine in front of the girls if we're out to dinner or at someone else's house for dinner.
McMister will drink beer or wine, but drinks beer far more often. And has a beer in front of the girls all the time. My mom and sister both prefer wine as well. So the vast majority of the time, Gracie sees the girls drinking wine, and the boys drinking beer. My mom is doing some sort of elimination diet thing and can't drink wine right now. So last night at dinner at her house, she took a drink of her beer and Gracie looked at her like she was crazy.
"Is you is a daddy?" she asked sincerely.
"No," my mom responded laughing, not knowing why. I knew immediately.
"Then why you having a beer?"
What about you? What kind of alcohol-focused assumptions do/will your kids make?

LMAO. Oh man, this seriously cracked me up to read.
Charlie and I are both beer ppl for sure. Hard alcohol is on rare occasions (whiskey for C, tequila for me), and I like wine with certain dinners or special occasions.
Almost ALL of our friends are beer drinks as well, and Stella is definitely used to seeing the cans around. :)
Love her assumption! I also like her sentence structure! The cutest!!
That's great. I think Tay may grow up thinking the same thing. I despise beer and Andy has one beer a night. Daddies drink beer.
Smart girl.
That is absolutely adorable! We live in Utah where a lot of people are teetotalers. B isn't in school yet but our friends have kids that are, and they come home saying drinking is bad. I guess they learn it from other kids? So our friends just lie to their kids and call beer "daddy juice" and wine "mommy juice"!
Hahaha that's awesome. We used to call it that, but then she was like, "Juice??? Yes, please!"
